Suryanelli is a scenic destination in Kerala about 20 km ahead of Munnar. I visited in the Monsoon months, but honestly, this place is amazing year-round with amazing weather. The best part is that in other months, you'll get a glorious view of Kolukkumalai peak and the view of the rising sun. I was staying at the Tentgram hostel here and they helped me organize a special meal for kids at Suryanelli school. That part was especially the closest to my heart. Pondicherry, or Puducherry, is a city where time seems to flow in many directions at once. On one hand, you’ll find pastel-colored French villas, tree-lined boulevards, and cafés serving croissants and café au lait. On the other, the heartbeat of Tamil culture thrives — with bustling markets, temple rituals, filter coffee, and fragrant jasmine flowers at every corner.

In this video, I take you on a journey through Pondicherry’s many layers. We begin at Arikamedu, once a thriving port where Roman ships arrived more than 2,000 years ago, reminding us that Pondicherry’s story is far older than its colonial past. Then we walk through the Black town and White Town, and explore their history, food, architecture and more.
